Finland is widely recognised for its strong tradition of outdoor education, where learning in nature begins at the earliest stages of childhood. Finnish schools regularly use forests, parks and natural surroundings as extended classrooms, nurturing curiosity, environmental awareness, resilience and wellbeing. This approach, rooted in the Nordic idea of outdoor life, proves that meaningful education can happen not only in formal indoor settings but also through direct contact with the world around us.

Our project draws from these Finnish experiences and adapts them to adult learning. Education on the road means learning through movement, observation and exploration in real environments. It combines outdoor activities, digital tools, photography, local history and nature-based tasks. In this project, we transfer these ideas into an international context, designing attractive educational paths for adults and seniors, supporting inclusion, wellbeing and lifelong learning.

PROJECT OBJECTIVE

The aim of the project is to transform adult education in the field of digital and green competences by implementing innovative teaching methods such as micro-credentials and mobile, outdoor learning scenarios. The project promotes lifelong learning, supports educators in developing modern and flexible tools, and strengthens international cooperation and mobility in adult education.

INTERNATIONAL PARTNERSHIP

The project is led by Fundacja FERI from Poland, working together with partners from Poland, North Macedonia and Italy.
This international consortium brings diverse experiences, cultural viewpoints and educational practices. The variety of perspectives ensures a richer, more innovative approach to designing learning pathways and guarantees that the project will be developed with broad European relevance. It also promises an engaging and inspiring journey for all participants.

The project is implemented across four Work Packages:

  • WP1 – Project Management – Comprehensive coordination, monitoring and reporting to ensure the effective and timely delivery of all activities.
  • WP2 – Education on the Road: Guide for Educators – Development of a practical handbook on implementing micro-credentials, the Open Badge standard and outdoor learning methods inspired by the Finnish approach.
  • WP3 – Development of Green and Digital Competences – Creation of six mobile educational scenarios using multimedia tools, including e-learning, podcasts, local field tasks and interactive activities. These scenarios encourage adults and seniors to learn directly in their environment, using mobile devices and everyday surroundings as learning spaces.
  • WP4 – Promotion and Dissemination – Implementation of an international communication and dissemination strategy that includes workshops, a final conference, articles and infographics aimed at encouraging wider adoption of innovative adult education methods.
